    Hello everyone,

Here is where we are today and where we will be in the very near future.

I appreciate your commitment despite the challenges. Our Executive Director, Mr. Kastl, and the District have been very supportive.

HVAC Vendor/Tech is on site now. HVAC Vendor/Tech will run one chiller overnight and it will be sufficient enough to cool the building in order to hold classes at Long and Woodrow tomorrow. HVAC Vendor/Tech will be on site over night to ensure that the chiller will stay on all night. HVAC Vendor/Tech will work on the second chiller tonight and should be able to turn it on and run it at some point tomorrow.

Feel free to wear jeans and a spirit t-shirt tomorrow!

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Moran

    Woodrow Community,

As many of you are aware, the air conditioning at JL Long and Woodrow is not functioning properly at this time. DISD Facilities has informed the campus that one of the two chillers went down yesterday. The district is working to have it repaired today and are currently pumping as much A/C into the buildings as possible with the operating unit.

The campus administration is also working hard to make sure all students are as comfortable as possible. Portable commercial fans have been positioned in warm areas. Windows have been opened to promote circulation and some classes have been relocated to cooler areas.

Please know the campus is addressing the situation. We hope this provides you with valuable information.

Please try not to call the campus or check your child out of school.

    We appreciate your support.

Woodrow Wildcats Parents, Teachers, and Alumni,

You are invited to be a part of the Woodrow Wilson PTA.  This year we have added programs that we believe will benefit our Woodrow community.

Our first PTA meeting is Monday, September 10th from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Woodrow Wilson Library.

Each PTA meeting will feature a guest speaker. This month, our speaker is Dee O'Neill from the Center for Brain Health at UTD.  She will discuss the topic of mindfulness and share the neuroscience behind it, as well as, general stress management tools. I think this will be really interesting!

Charles Dowden from the Dallas Rotary club will also join us that night. And, of course, you'll want to learn all about what's happening with Homecoming and other PTA related items.

Thank you and we hope to see you then

Thank you all for a great week.

I appreciate your patience with the leveling process and shuffling of schedules. I assure you that this will not be our process next year.

There are so many great things happening. Instruction looks strong, students are happy, and we are making progress. Our teachers and faculty continue to be the foundation of success at Woodrow.

     Updates

    Badges - Students and Staff

We will begin issuing badges next week through English classes. We will take updated pictures for 9th and 12th graders. New students will have their pictures taken on Wednesday and anyone we missed will be scheduled for Friday.

    Construction and Parking

The City of Dallas will begin water and sewer line work on Reiger in the upcoming weeks. They will not work during arrival or dismissal. They will work while school is in session and then continue after dismissal. While working, Reiger will be reduced to a single lane. Entry and exit from the staff parking lot will be limited to Glasgow. The work also impacts the horseshoe so we will continue to route buses through the staff lot.

Please avoid parking on Columbia. A number of cars were cited for parking the wrong direction. We now have a monitor for the parking lot. He will arrive early to make sure students are not parking in teacher spots at Randall Park.

    School Safety Update

Convirgent Technologies has been working hard the last couple days on the safety project created by the SBDM and funded by community donors. There will be two key card entrances for staff - the door by the staff parking lot and the back door leading to the portables. Guest entry will continue to be through the front and require that they be buzzed in from the main office. We should also receive three wands which will provide more versatility for our security team.

As always, the best system for maintaining a safe campus is that if you see something, say something. Alert a monitor, administrator, or Officers Douglas or Bostick.

     Teacher Feature

    Mr. Evetts

Mr. Evetts came to Woodrow in 2012 on a mission to transform the band into an award winning program. Over the last seven years, he's built the program into a championship organization that is respected across the metroplex. His group reflects the diversity and talents of our entire school. Participation in the program is a transformative experience that prepares students for life after high school.

     Super Staffer

    Ms. "Baz" Bazylewicz

Ms. Baz is our new Academic Service Provider (ASP). Her office is in the counseling suite. She'll focus on making sure students are exposed, eligible, and prepared for college. Stay tuned for goals, calendars, and action steps. Her writing experience will be a difference maker for scholarship and entrance essays. She'll also be a calm presence during what can be a very stressful time.

    Sincerely,
    Mike Moran
    Principal Woodrow Wilson H.S.

Woodrow is in need of assistance in the mornings from 7:30-9:00 am and lunchtime from 11:45-1:30 pm.

This volunteer opportunity allows you to be a part of the administrations NEW on campus monitor program.  You will help facilitate an efficient entrance into school in the morning and during lunch ensure the students remain on campus.
