As we head into Homecoming week, there is a lot to celebrate. Tennis won the district championship. Football and volleyball are tied for first place. Cross country has a great shot at the district championship Wednesday, and I am confident swim will win “The Battle for the Paddle” on Thursday. Much of their success is due to effective teaching and coaching during swell-attended synchronous practices. With 9 instructional days left in the first marking period, we need to get back to basics of students following their schedule with their teacher. Students will need to do this to be counted present and those unable to meet this expectation will need to meet with the assistant principal and counselor. Parents, we need your help with attendance and assignment completion to make sure Woodrow remains the exemplary school for teaching and learning.

Return to Synchronous Learning

Please review the attendance video from Assistant Principal Jackson.

Important details for families:

  • All distance learning students should follow their course schedules to virtually attend classes throughout the regularly scheduled school day.
  • Students should remain connected to their teacher via Zoom for the entire period.
  • Students not present in the Zoom will be marked absent.
  • Students not able to attend during this time should contact the teacher to inform them of the emergency preventing them from participating.
  • For students unable to engage regularly during regular school hours, a synchronous learning waiver will need to be completed for review by campus administration as to why the student must engage after regular school hours.

More Information from Dallas ISD:

Changing Learning Models:

Any parent or legal guardian that desires to change their child’s learning model for the second nine weeks that begins on Monday, November 9, 2020, must call Woodrow at 972 502 4440 or fill out this Distance Learning / On-Campus Learning Model Change Request Form the week of Monday, October 26 to Friday, October 30. We will note the change in learning model and provide information to you the week of Monday, November 2. We are ensuring that we can maintain all safety measures with the addition of on-campus learners.

While Dallas ISD has made distance learning an option for families to start the school year, beginning Monday, November 9, the distance learning option will only be recommended for students who have demonstrated success in completing assignments, maintaining passing grades, and engaging in virtual learning. Due to unacceptable grades and/or poor remote attendance, the campus may reach out to recommend that your child return to campus and resume on-campus learning.

  • Campus staff will be contacting parents and guardians by phone or by home visits if they are unable to make phone contact.
  • In the coming weeks, campuses will begin holding failure prevention meetings with families to address academic and attendance challenges, as well as to work together in creating a plan for student success.

If your child has been absent from school or has not engaged virtually to complete daily assignments, a note signed by the parent, which describes the reason for the absence, must be submitted to the campus. This can assist in avoiding truancy consequences, while we continue to support your child’s learning on campus. Please take some time to review your student’s first grading period report card in PowerSchool. If you have not yet created a PowerSchool account, it’s never too late!
