WOODROW FUN FACT

Woodrow has a rich theater tradition beginning in 1929 with the production of Daniel Steele’s, Giants’ Stairs. In 1957, the department produced the first Woodrow Broadway musical, Oklahoma!, and the Woodrow Wilson show choir, Variations, initially beginning in honor of the school’s 50th anniversary, continues to garner awards and accolades to this day.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Marca Lee Bircher is Woodrow Wilson High School’s long-time, award-winning choir director and school musicals producer/director whose outstanding choral and theater arts programs brought great acclaim to the school. Her choir students consistently won the highest awards in regional and state competitions. In 1979, she founded a show choir class, establishing a performing ensemble, The Variations, which appeared in venues across the city, state and nation. Throughout the years, she also directed students in 28 full-scale Broadway musical productions enjoyed by patrons from near and far. Retired from teaching in 2003, Governor Rick Perry awarded Marca Lee Bircher the state’s most prestigious Texas Medal of Arts Award
