SUBJECT: Wildcat E-News - September 21

Woodrow Wilson High School Wildcat News
September 21, 2020

Hey Wildcats, in order to reduce emails and redundant communication, we will partner with the PTA to house information on their calendar and share weekly reminders through their newsletter. We’ve included important upcoming dates below, but please subscribe to the calendar or visit the Woodrow PTA site and click on calendar.

  • Re-entry Survey: The deadline to complete the Re-entry Survey is Wednesday, September 23. Currently 80% of families have submitted their preference. We need 100% participation.
  • MAPs Testing: Sophomores will test on Wednesday, September 23. Read the MAPs Plan Overview for testing times and directions. If you need information about our online option, complete this online form. The goal is to have 100% of students test in order to provide us with an accurate baseline as we start the year.
  • Return to School Dates
    • September 21: Marching band, drill team, and cheerleaders return to school for practice. Communicate with the coach/sponsor for details.
    • September 28: 9th graders return based on the school model
    • October 5: All student groups return based on the school model
  • Class Meetings
    • 9th grade class meeting: On Thursday, September 24 freshman counselors and administrators will lead a virtual class meeting about returning to school. The meeting is 6-7 p.m. via Zoom.
    • 10th, 11, 12th grade meetings TBD
  • SBDMOur first meeting will be Wednesday, September 23 at 6 p.m. PM via Zoom. SBDM voting will have to be virtual this year. To provide a fair election, parents are asked to register by Tuesday, September 22 at 6 p.m. so we can send you the Zoom meeting link. (Note: Parents will need their child’s ID number to register.) You can download a tentative agenda for the meeting.
  • Testing Calendar: You can view the Districtwide Testing Schedule on the Dallas ISD website.
  • Sports Calendars – This live calendar of games and matches is updated by our athletic director.
  • ASP Calendar: This calendar has important information about college workshops and support from our Academic Service Provider (ASP).
  • SAT and ACT Prep Sessions: Dallas ISD high school students have the opportunity to attend ACT and SAT Boot Camp. Spots are limited. Register online ASAP.
  • Dallas ISD UIL Grading Period and Eligibility CalendarView or download the eligibility calendar for 2020-21.

Please continue to sign up for Remind text messages for in-the-moment information.

Woodrow Peace Pantry is stocked and ready to support families in need!

On Tuesday, September 14 the Peace Pantry began handing out food bags to Woodrow Wilson families. Bags will be handed out on Tuesdays at the horseshoe drive by the senior parking lot from 4:30 until 6 p.m. This will continue until school is in session face to face.

You can support the Peace Pantry with donations through our Amazon Wish List and Walmart Wish List. Donations will be mailed directly to Woodrow.

Mark SBDM meetings will be on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. via Zoom. So mark your calendars for upcoming meetings: September 23, October 21 and November 18. The date for December's meeting has yet to be announced.

Elections will be held at the September 23 meeting. All members, returning or new, need to complete the Candidate Information Form.

Woodrow has attempted to call every freshman using the primary contact information on file. Many of the numbers are no longer valid. If your family was not contacted by Woodrow Link Leaders please complete the Virtual Freshman Orientation form. If you have questions, please email Samantha Regenye.

Dallas County Promise is a coalition of school districts, colleges, universities, employers, and communities that have joined forces to help more Dallas County students complete college and begin careers. It provides tuition assistance, success coaching, and advising. On September 1, 2020, the Dallas County Promise Pledge opened for 2021 graduates. The deadline to complete the pledge is February 5, 2021. Visit the Dallas County Promise website for more information on the organization and upcoming deadlines.
