SUBJECT: Wildcat E-News - October 12

Woodrow Wilson High School Wildcat News
October 12, 2020
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL MORAN

Wildcat Families

It was great to welcome back more students to campus. Seeing students work through the content served as valuable feedback on what is being designed. Most that attended felt that being on campus helped them focus and they were more productive. On the competition front, cross country celebrated 1st place finishes, swim picked up wins Bishop Lynch, football blew out Richardson Berkner, and volleyball beat an undefeated Creekview team in straight sets. This week will be very busy with parent conferences on Monday, Common Assessments, the PSAT, and senior night for our performers. Please continue to be safe and thank you for partnering with us to make Woodrow the exemplary school for teaching and learning.

COVID Contact Tracing, Dashboard, and Communication

I want to make sure everyone has access to the public notification of COVID cases being posted on this COVID-19 Positive Cases Dashboard. This site will serve as general notification to parents, community, and staff.

Once a positive case is confirmed, a notification letter/school messenger is sent to all those identified as having close contact, protecting privacy. This letter will advise parents of students of possible exposure and the requirement to quarantine.

School staff will be notified of students or staff members being quarantined; no identifiable information will be shared. Thank you all for trusting the process and the health professionals involved in keeping us safe and healthy.

Parent Conferences

Teachers will be available via Zoom for short parent conferences Monday, October 12 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.

  • Starting at 5:30, teacher conference Zoom links will be available on Woodrow's DISD website.
  • Click on the Zoom link for the teacher you would like to talk with.
  • While in the “waiting room,” fill out the “Attendance Form.”
  • Do this by copying and pasting the link posted in the waiting room description into your web browser.
  • Teachers will use the time stamp from this Form to admit guests from the waiting room in the order they arrived.
  • Teachers have been advised to limit conferences to no longer than 7 minutes to limit the time people might spend in the waiting room.

If you are looking for a longer teacher conference, please contact the teacher directly through email.

Title I Presentation

From 5-5:25, Mr. Moran will present Title I information. This will inform you about goals for 2020-2021, how Title I dollars are spent, and how to be involved at Woodrow. Our counselors will also share about the role and services provided for students and families.

Common Assessments

This week students will participate in Common Assessments. In our STAAR tested areas, these exams will be administered via a new platform called “Dallas Assessment Navigator.” Learn more about this platform.

The date and time of the assessment will be set by the individual teacher. For more  information about each course’s exam, please contact the teacher.

PSAT

Students who are 10th graders, AVID, or a qualified DISD Scholar are invited to take the PSAT at Woodrow Wilson on Wednesday, October 14 at 8:30 a.m.

  • This test is on campus and not virtual or computer based.
  • It will be taken with paper and pencil. Students will be provided with all their supplies and a lunch. They may bring their own snacks and drinks.
  • Students may leave campus when your entire testing room is finished with the test. Standard time testing ends anytime between 2-3 p.m. Extra time testing ends anytime between 3-4 p.m.
  • If students plan on not coming to take the PSAT and have not filled out this survey, please complete the survey now.

We will be following all CDC and College Board guidelines for testing safely, but if you have any questions regarding PSAT administration, please email our Testing Coordinator, Mallory McLaughlin at mmclaughlin@dallasisd.org.

Spirit Week

Our amazing Student Council has outlined Spirit Days for this week to create a sense of community during this time of physical distancing. We want EVERYONE to have fun with this and post their pictures to Twitter. Use the hashtag #wildcatspirit and tag @WWHS_Wildcats. Let’s show everyone how connected the Woodrow family is.
