Woodrow Wilson parents and community!

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of Woodrow Wilson High School. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with high performing students, extremely dedicated staff and a supportive parent and school community. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to build upon the excellence of our students. My official start date at Woodrow Wilson High School is Monday, July 18, 2022.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than twenty years. I have worked with students ranging from 6th through 12th grade in a variety of roles. I have been a Reading, Self-Contained Classroom and Special Education Inclusion Teacher/Department Chair, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Track Coach, Athletic Coordinator, Testing Coordinator, Assistant Principal Middle and High School and Principal in Dallas Independent School District.

My initial goals are two-fold: Together, we must cultivate a culture of collaboration and inclusion with a commitment to doing our very best to help our students achieve through instructional leadership that moves every student each day towards career and college readiness. We will focus on the skills our students need to be successful in school, on tests for careers and college, as well as the rapidly changing job market. I do believe authentic literacy and math logic are common skills that binds all of these together, as our students will be reading, writing, speaking, reasoning, and solving problems every day in all of their classes. I believe these skills are necessary for every student to acquire in order to be successful in their future endeavors.

Successful schools have very regular communication, community and parent partnerships. An old African proverb states that “It takes a village.” As my partner in learning thank you in advance for joining being a part of the village to move students towards excellence. We will get to know your student to ensure they develop the academic foundation skills and positive character in preparation for this journey.

I value the feedback from our Parent Partner community and staff. Please feel free to contact me at the school, mobile phone by text, email at chooperbarnett@dallasisd.org, or social media to discuss our school and our path to greatness.

I look forward to working with the Woodrow Wilson Wildcats teachers, staff and community to ensure that we have a safe and very productive 2022-2023 school year together.
